Traffic Quintet

Last evening I had the pleasure of going to see the Traffic Quintet, a compilation of two violins, a viola, a cello and a double bass. I had no idea what to expect of this concert until I had arrived. They played various famous scores from movies such as Virgin Suicide, Basic Instinct, Vertigo, Physco and many more. Alexandre Desplat is responsible for their compositions, combining his two passions; cinema and music.
Behind the musicians is a screen depicting wandering women from famous movies, and the score is played along with the film. While the first half of the performance was top notch, I was more intrigued by the second half by more sounds and expressions that they made with their instruments. The musicians were using their wind instruments to make scratching and percussion sounds. It was easy to feel the emotions of the characters in the background through their music, making this concert extremely enticing. Normally, I would not have been interested in music like this, but there was never a dull moment. The traffic quintet should be applauded on their captivating skills, and creative film music performance.
The traffic quintet was started by violinist Dominique Lemonnier. The other four musicians are Anne Villette, violinist, an interpreter of tangos and jazz; Estelle Villotte, now a violist in the Orchestre de Paris; Raphaƫl Perraud, principal cello of the Orchestre National de France and Philippe Noharet, a double bass player who plays for the Orchestra of the Paris Opera.
