Funny and uplifting "Soul Kitchen," by German director Faith Aikon, was the 50th Film Festival's opening show.
The story begins with Zinos, a young restaurant owner who is down on his luck. After his girlfriend, Nadine, moves to China Zinos becomes determined to raise enough funds so he can follow her to Shanghai. However, getting the money turns out more difficult than Zinos had originally thought as customers boycott his new chef, back problems keep him from moving, his recently released from prison brother needs a job, and a shady real estate agent becomes determined to stop at nothing to get his property. All of these events combine together nicely to give "Soul Kitchen" some real class.
